Living cross-border complicates your financial picture. Your accounts sit in two currencies, under two tax systems, and not every wrapper is treated the same way by both governments. These tools keep your Canadian and US accounts separate until the very last step, converting only the totals, and flag the account-level quirks that matter for someone in your position.

These tools are not tax, legal, or immigration advice. They don't model cross-border taxation — treat every dollar figure as a pre-tax planning target. Cross-border tax rules (RRSP/TFSA treatment, PFIC, FBAR/FATCA, departure tax, totalization) are genuinely complex and change; work with a cross-border-specialist accountant or financial planner before acting on this.

Frequently asked questions

Is this free, and do you store my financial data?
Yes to both. Everything you enter stays in your browser's local storage on your own device — nothing is uploaded to us, there's no account to create, and there are no ads. You can clear your data at any time by clearing your browser's site storage.
Is this tax, legal, or immigration advice?
No. These are planning calculators built from publicly documented CRA/IRS rules and treaty provisions, meant to help you understand the shape of your situation and prepare better questions for a cross-border accountant or advisor — not a substitute for one.
What is CoastFIRE?
A version of financial independence where your existing investments, left to grow with no further contributions, are already projected to cover your retirement — meaning you can "coast" on what you've already saved. The CoastFIRE Calculator is the core tool on this site; every other tool builds on the same account and benefit inputs.
Which countries does this cover?
Canada and the US specifically — for Canadians living, working, or planning to move between the two, tracking RRSP/TFSA/FHSA/RESP alongside 401(k)/IRA/Roth/HSA accounts, CAD and USD together. It isn't built for other country pairs.
Are the CPP, OAS, and Social Security amounts calculated for me?
No — you enter your own estimated monthly amounts (from your Service Canada or ssa.gov statement), and the tools apply the published early/late claiming-age adjustments on top of what you provide. Quebec residents can toggle a "Quebec resident?" setting in the CoastFIRE Calculator's Government Benefits section so these fields are labeled QPP instead of CPP — the claiming-age math is the same for both.
Can I plan for a spouse or partner too?
Yes — enable "Planning with a spouse or partner?" on the CoastFIRE Calculator to add a second independent age and government-benefit claiming schedule. Accounts stay pooled as one household total rather than tracked per person, and both spouses share one household retirement date.
Figures current as of 2026
  • 2026 — CPP, OAS & Social Security maximums, HSA contribution limits, the capital gains inclusion rate, and moving-back thresholds are all updated for 2026.
  • Jan 2025 — Social Security Fairness Act repeal of WEP/GPO reflected in the Benefit Timing amounts.
  • Last independently verified: August 2026 — CPP/OAS/SS figures, RRSP withholding rates, and the 2026 US tax brackets checked directly against CRA, IRS, and SSA publications.
